ARTIST STATEMENT

For me, the actual process of creating art is immersive. I focus so much that I feel I have stepped outside myself. I cease to exist and am instead channeling someone or something. I do not start with an idea of drawing this or that but rather with an abstraction and am guided by the piece being born. By the time I am finished, something very specific presents itself in the piece. It’s similar to sculptors who say they start with a piece of stone, and what comes out is already there. That is what I am saying. It was in the paper all along, I just made it visible.
